my world,.. my dreams...

Introduction

Project ZNIX is an attempt to refine traditional information management systems to provide an object-based, application-independent retrieval and manipulation framework targeting casual users.

The World of ZNIX

Think of the world around you. Think of the people that inhabit it, the relationships they have to you, or the things you have to interact with on a daily basis...

Then think of how much of information, without even realising, you transfer through your computer about this world. You'd probably send an email to your mom, telling her how things are going in your new college, or you may fire up your journal and type in the details of the great date you just had, or you'd log on to the internet and browse through tons of information relating to your latest assignement...

In a way your PC is like your secret best friend. It knows most of what you're doing and dreaming to do. It knows exactly what you did last summer and maybe even why you did it and what happened afterwards.

So why is it that I can't ask my secret best friend to tell me the phone number of the girl I met at last years conference? Now, I remeber that I put it down in my journal when I wrote down something like "... so can I have your number? And she said, sure its 555..." I know I didn't write it down in a safe place, cos' I got her e-mail as well. Didn't I send her an email? Mmm... what did I say in it?

You can do this on your PC by the way. The only problem is you'd probably have to open at least two applications and run the search seperately on each of them. And when you find what you're looking for, there's still no easy way to keep it in tact for future reference.

Today Software applications specialize in managing one or a handful of information types. They have evolved to make it more and more easy to fill the PC with these information, but, have failed to connect these disparate dots and complete the bigger picture.

This is where Project ZNIX comes in... (more).
